We commend the President Rupiah Banda for taking steps to block the senseless claim of US$6.7 million by Rodger Chongwe. We all know that he does not deserve it now and never deserved it then. There is no proof whatsoever that the same bullet that is believed to have glazed president Kaunda's forehead also glazed Chongwe's ear. What is clear is that Chongwe has not succeeded in his legal practice so Zambian taxpayers money presented him with the best opportunity for instant success.
We trust that the President's pre-emptive action has sent a message to those who desire to dupe taxpayers. Having said that, we hope that President Banda can see to it that former president Chiluba is made to account for the millions of dollars that the London Court convicted him of having stolen from the people of Zambia. Precedent has been set and we would like justice to be done.
