Ongoing Rivalries in the Zambian Community
Does one wonder why it's so hard for Zambians to achieve unity of purpose? There is so much going on, so many intelligent Zambians of all gender all over the world and so many diverse ideas and opinions. By the way, I hear that attitudes and characters among Zambians are just as diverse as the numbers and these are largely believed to contribute to the absence of unity and success. Who cares? One would ask such a ridiculous question! Zambia has been badly ravaged by rogues and demagogues for far too long. We cannot pretend that we don't care about Zambia and how and where the nation goes from this stage. Neither can we all stand by and watch while an animal farm takes hold, form and shape. I know that the state of the economy and the mediocre infrastructure hurts every caring indigenous Zambian that has their roots in Zambia. It would make more sense, for a change and for us all, to realize that there is so much we may be able to do to help give the captain of the lost ship the right bearings so he may be able to steer it back on the right course. Many of us appreciate how much we may be able to achieve as an organized team than persuing a myriad programs as individuals. The starting point would be to start working toward eradicating personal differences and unnecessary latent rivalries.

Agreed. First and foremost, let's get rid of the PHD syndrome. The poblem is that it is too well-entrenched in our culture.
ReplyDeleteJason, you are so right that we need start from there.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jason, while education should be encouraged at any cost; the idea that groups are formulated on that basis is unfortunate. This system tends to alienate capable people who otherwise could be useful to the entire community. The PHD syndrome.
ReplyDeleteLet me comment on the question at hand "On going rivalries in the Zambian community". Let us be clear, these rivalries are actually found in every community, as matter of fact if you are Italian you can die for messing up. Rivalries will always be there, but the big question is how we come out of the fight, stronger or weaker. Everyone should make an effort to shake off a disagreement and move on for the common good.
I doubt the existence of Pull Him Down. I think people have an arrogance that says " Look at me I have a Phd from Harvard. I know better than anyone else." So when they are criticised or opposed they run behind the shield of Pull him down. The numbers of letters after your name do note mean you are a leader or a wise person. They show that you showed proficiency in a certain narrow field of academic study and wrote several papers and these which were tested and found to be of merit by your peers and tutors in that field. Nothing more nothing less. We however have Professor in Crashworthiness of Motor Vehicles coming to to tell us how clever they are and how they should rule us. i will not debate them on their esoteric field but when it ocmes to any subject concerning Zambia they should expect comment and criticism. President Truman had a saying "if you can't stand the heat in the kitchen stay out" Stop moaning and hiding behind Phd. Prove yourself.
