The value of attaining Independence the hard way

Zambia gained independence in the absence of armed struggle, but with a little bit of stone-throwing and relative quiet! What a useless way of gaining freedom. Why? Because it doesn't give anyone grit, courage and consciousness to fight for justice when things don't go right as the situation is at the moment. You have corruption going on unabated, political demagogues masquerading as chosen ones, no plausible ideas how the economy should be steered back on the right course, and no agenda. Who cares?

  1. In Zambia there are mechanisms in place to combat corruption, so if anyone knows anyone who is involved in corrupt practices, they just have to report them to the authorities with hard evidence. Corruption is not corruption just because Mutembo Nchito and Mmembe say so. These are infact the most corrupt Zambians but people are afraid to touch them or even point them out.

  2. You've got it all wrong Lusakagossip. How you got independent (hard or soft way) has no bearing on effective mangement of a country. How then do you explain the Zimbabwean situation. The current mismanagement in Zambia is a factor of personal greed of those in leadership. If you meant to say Zambians are not politically conscious or are outright docile when it comes to shaping the political climate, I may agree with you - to some extent!
